I just saw this painting today. A well-known installation artist has it hanging in his hallway. I walked up the stairs in his building, an old run-down place in the Colonial Zone, and Bam!… there it was. Big, powerful, frightening. And cool. Very cool. I hope to buy this from him but he might not want to let it go. I can understand why.

I love this painting. It belongs to Manuel Bolos, who also has a large collection of Goico’s paintings.

Just found this the other day. I have over 100 paintings and drawings by Goico now.
I am thinking of doing a retrospective exhibition of his works. Maybe in an abandoned cinema in the Colonial Zone where he used to sleep. There are a few old cars, cats, etc…  Perfect.

Vase with Flowers
This was the first painting I saw by Goico. It was about 3 years after he had died and very few people were interested in his art. His life as an insane homeless street person had ruined his his reputation as an artist. Just arriving in the DR from Europe, I thought that this painting was incredible. Totally visceral. The colors explode off the canvas. This painting led to my obsession with his works and I now have a large collection. I have since found out that there are other people like me who think that Goico was a genius. Mostly art critics and a few fellow artists. I helped with the first exhibition of his works since his death in 2009. And I know that a big exhibition is being planned by an art gallery. I hope that he eventually gets the recognition that he deserves. If you want to learn more, check out my website at www.carlosgoico.com
